Choi kwang do

Choi kwang do!

LJ loves this and I started recently, she is now a yellow belt junior looking to grade in November to a yellow belt senior.

I on the other hand I am a white belt junior.  The belt levels can be found here.

Choi kwang do was started by master jo kwang choi.  I think he tried to name it after himself.

It is closely related to tae kwon doe and kickboxing, a very mixed martial art!

She's looking very relaxed (wearing black) during the warm up excercises.

LJ trains with NCKD on wednesday and friday evenings.  i train on those days too usually, but i also train on  Monday mornings.

SHTF

Ive blogged a few time about this, I don't remember exactly what I have covered before. I know that I am not fully prepared yet but I keep going, keep slogging along.

Its not easy prepping when your OH doesn't understand why you are, I've tried to discuss it with him a few times but his upbringing is such that he has no worries about future events.

And future events are starting to slot into place already.

I dont want to be a scare monger, I am not really concerned persay about the recent news coverage of the Ebola outbreak, but my preps are not yet up to that type of disaster. I am just starting out - have been starting out for the past 2 years.

I get things as and when I can and I am currently getting ready for the loss of income.

Yes yes yes I live in the UK where we can fall back on the welfare state and claim Jobseekers Allowance but I would rather not return to that status.

After that I will focus more on local disasters, ie flood, snow, service failure.  I am not nearly ready to start planning pandemic!

I don't live week to week when it comes to food, putting a bit of what we like away each shopping trip, but just recently I have had to use a few of my supplies when my income was cut by over 2/3 rds and then the rent was messed up by the council and we became £2000 in debt overnight.  We also had a big scare when the MOT was due and found out it had run out 2 months earlier than we thought!

First Aid Kits, Fire Alarm Checks and Chocolate

First Aid Kits, Fire Alarm Checks and Chocolate

This week according to PreparedLDS Family it is oils and fats months, I have these kinda covered, we use cooking spray and I have 10L of veg oil in the cupboard.  As for peanut butter, it isn't really loved in this house.  So instead this week I will be sorting out my first aid kit.

Its a bit of a process because first I have to go through the house and see what we have already ( I'm not organised naturally so I'm hoping this exercise on preparedness will help me.

Things I would like to have in my first aid kit are :

Assorted plasters
Alcohol wipes
Bandages- stretch
Bandages- gauze
Gauze pads
Paracetamol
Ibuprofen
Antacid
Activated charcoal
Antiseptic cream
Butterfly stitches ( steri strips)
Sudocrem ( itch, rash, burn cream in one)
Suntan lotion
After Sun
Alcohol handwash
Medicine spoons/ oral syringe
Calpol for all ages
Colpermin tabs( peppermint, helps to ease wind etc)
finger splints
Bite cream
sterile water
Blunt Tipped Scissors
Non- Latex Gloves

A childs kit might include :

Assorted plasters
Alcohol wipes
Alcohol handwash

They are not expected to be treating walking wounded unless it is themselves or their siblings, so I won't be adding any gloves or anything elaborate as it is just for the odd grazed knee.

As yet we don't have a first aid kit in the car, despite trying and buying them!   So this time I will include these items, and find a good place for it to go in car :

Car first aid kit

Assorted plasters
Alcohol wipes
Bandages- stretch
Bandages- gauze
Gauze pads
Paracetamol
Ibuprofen
Antacid
Antiseptic cream
Steristrips
After Sun
Suntan lotion
Medicine spoons/oral syringe
Bite cream
Calpol or all ages
alcohol handwash
Sterile water
Blunt Tipped Scissors
Non-Latex Gloves

The clocks change this weekend, tomorrow in fact, so its time to check the smoke alarms are working. It is a simple test - push the red button and it will beep if all is in order.  If it beeps regularly you without pushing the button or there being a fire you need to check/ change the battery.

Finally we get to chocolateNext weeks prep items are 12 Oz. chocolate/baking chips AND 4oz. baking cocoa (source)

I'm going to add some single serve hot chocolate sachets to my preps this week as well, they are good for BOBs/GOOD bags and are currently 4 for £1 at ASDA for Cadburys Highlights, Options and Horlicks, including the Maltesers, Galaxy and Wispa flavoured ones. I think they make a good home comfort for 72 hour kits and their small size and light weight make them ideal.

I think this week it would be a good idea to bag up some of my BOB preps, they are in a cardboard box in the kitchen at the moment.  I also have 8x2 Litre bottles and 12x1Litre bottles of water in the boot of my car waiting to make their way to my understairs cupboard where i intend my water to be stored.  Its nice and dark in there, stays cooler with a quite stable temperature and most importantly its NOT IN THE WAY!

Please comment below if you see anything I may have missed in the first aid kits and why not let me know what you are doing to prepare this week!

Hmmm...

Hi there whoever might one day read this.

Ive been writing this blog for a few months now,on and off ( mostly off).  I think i need to make a serious commitment to it and talk about some thing ... Most of the good blogs that people are interested in are about a specific subject, but there are so many things i am interested in.

I think i will continue as i am for a while, maybe one day someone other than me will read this.

Slimming World Taster Session For October

Slimming World Taster Session For October

Hi Readers, today has been a bit of a strange day for me.  I have had an official visit, a cooker repair and a few practices with a headscarf. Should the SHTF I can be sure of a warm head!  NJ looked cute in her scarf too, she just had to look like mummy.

She was concerning me a bit recently as she kept asking for Nanny, I found out  she  actually meant dummy (Nunny).

Anyway today at Slimming World it is a taster event. They are gonna do a few of these before christmas but today is the first I've decided to cook for.  Now here is my problem … do I cook this : Spicy Beef Pasta from the Asda Magazine or this Egg Fried Rice recipe from the Slimming World Fakeaways book.

With a small tweak the Asda recipe is Free on Extra Easy (orange).   Just switch the olive oil for a quick squirt of cooking spray, and the cheese and bread are healthy extra’s.

I think i will do this one ...

Egg Fried Rice: serves 4.
Free on EE, Free on Green, 17 syns on Red

350g dried long grain or Thai fragrant/ jasmine rice
2 eggs
low calorie cooking spray
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp worchestershire  sauce
ground white pepper

  • Cook rice according to the packet instructions, cool under cold water and set aside.
  • Meanwhile, beat the eggs with 2 tbsp water
  • Spray a nonstick wok or large frying wok with low calorie cooking spray.
  • When almost smoking, add the cooked rice and stir fry for about 3-4 mins until reheated thoroughly
  • Stir in soy and worcestershire sauce, and the pepper into the rice and push it to one side.
  • Pour the beaten egg mixture into the other side of the wok and leave for approx 10 seconds until it begins to set
  • Briskly swirl through the egg with a chopstick to break it up then toss it through the rice.
  • Stir fry for a further minute and serve hot.

Birthday Time Again

Birthday Party Time Again

I don’t want you all to think i only write this blog when I’m bored, but I am bored right now.

So i thought i would quickly give you a run down of Tommy’s birthday party.  I started by telling him that i couldn't afford to do him a party.  I know its mean, and i felt really bad about doing it, he was understandably upset.  The truth is that i am hiring the local community centre and we are having a Batman party.

The invites were simple - getting hold of the venue at such short notice - NOT so simple!

drop off some form.  I really regret
the time when it will be but I didnt
think to ask for Saturday and Sunday
morning they have a church group
meet there, then after that they have
martial arts til 5pm.  I hope that it
wont put too many off coming,
originally thought it was the sunday
before half term but it was a week out!

I guess now would be a good time to
walk you through my Pinteresting
morning, researching party games and food.

Here is where i got most of my inspiration from :

origami bat - i had a go at one but i was
a bit confused.

The next thing to do is food … what would a superhero eat?

  • Cheese and Pineapple or cheese and cucumber?
  • Rice Krispie Cakes?
  • Tuna, Egg and Ham Sandwiches? cut into bat shapes
  • I have plenty of cake pops in the freezer waiting to be decorated
  • Cones of crisps(chips to you american readers)
  • Biscuits (cookies)
  • carrots and celery
  • and of course there is cake batman cake.jpeg this cake, i bought it from ASDA and i think it will work ok.

so much to think about and only 6 days 5 days to do it in!
